科研成果/ScienceHighlights

  1. Dr. Yu and team implemented aself-consistently electric field in geospace global circulation modules and successfullyreproduced/explained the ring current injection as observed from the newlylaunch scientific mission Van Allen Probes, contributing significantly to the understandingof the role of plasma injection as well as the mission successs.

  2. Dr. Yu and team developed LANL*software for fast computation of the third adiabatic invariant L*, which is acritical parameter in studies of radiation bets dynamics. Los Alamos NationalLaboratory reported this achievement as one of their Scientific Highlight.The software was selected by NASA/CCMC (Community Coordinated Modeling Center)for worldwide application.

  3. Dr. Yu and team found thedelayed response in the ionosphere following a sudden southward turning of IMF.This result was published in Journal of Geophysical Research 2009, and wasselected by “Editor’s Choice” of the Space Weather Journal.

  4. Dr. Yu and team developed anumerical tool for computing the ground-based magnetic field perturbations, bytaking into account all available current systems in the magnetosphere andionosphere system. This result was published in Journal of Geophysical Research2010, and was selected by “Editor’s Choice” of the Space Weather Journal. Thetool has been widely used in the community.
