科研成果/Science Highlights      

  • Dr. Yu and team implemented a self-consistently electric field in geospace global circulation modules,  and successfully reproduced/explained the ring current injection as observed from the newly launch scientific mission Van Allen Probes, contributing significantly to the understanding of the role of plasma injection as well as the mission successs.                   

  • Dr. Yu and team developed LANL* software for fast computation of the third adiabatic invariant L*,   which is a critical parameter in studies of radiation bets dynamics. Los Alamos National Laboratory reported this achievement as one of their Scientific Highlight. The software was selected by NASA/CCMC (Community Coordinated Modeling Center) for worldwide application.    

  • Dr. Yu and team found the delayed response in the ionosphere following a sudden southward turning of IMF. This result was published in Journal of Geophysical Research 2009, and was selected by “Editor’s Choice” of the Space Weather Journal.             

  • Dr. Yu and team developed a numerical tool for computing the ground-based magnetic field perturbations, by taking into account all available current systems in the magnetosphere and ionosphere system. This result was published in Journal of Geophysical Research 2010, and was selected by “Editor’s Choice” of the Space Weather Journal. The tool has been widely used in the community.
